More and more children with diabetes in Spain. The disease has an important genetic factor, but not alone, we need an environmental factor such as a virus, a toxic, something in the food or cause still unknown to manifest diabetes.

The diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is increasingly common in children and adolescents xestadounidenses, especially those who are obese. Some studies show that between 8 and 45% of children newly diagnosed with diabetes have the type known as 2, depending on geographic location and racial / ethnic group.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that needs careful attention, but with some practical knowledge, you can make your son to be his most important ally in learning to live with the disease.

What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease that affects how the body uses glucose, the principal form of sugar in the blood. Glucose comes from foods we eat and is the major source of energy needed to perform the functions of the human body.

After you eat a meal, your body crumbles and turns food into glucose and other nutrients that are absorbed into the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract. The level of glucose in the blood rises after a meal and triggers the pancreas make the hormone insulin and release it into the bloodstream. But in people with diabetes, the body is unable to produce or respond to insulin properly.

Insulin works like a key that opens the doors to cells and allows the entry of glucose. Without insulin, glucose can not get into the cells (the doors are “closed” and there is no key to open) so that it stays in the bloodstream. As a result, the level of sugar in the blood remains higher than normal. High blood sugar levels are a problem because they can cause various health complications.

diabetes Poor nutrition can lead to overweight and obesity, as well as infectious diseases (respiratory, gastrointestinal and viral) and accidents, more common in school children between 6 and 12 years of age in both urban and rural areas.

These situations can be controlled if appropriate measures are taken in each case, said Felipe de Jesús López Robles, director of the Family Medicine Unit No. 1 of the IMSS in Zacatecas.

The director explained that prevention is very important because these situations are presented in the developmental stage of the body and form good habits of children, and recommended PREVENIMSS go to clinics, where according to the age of child guide to parents.

He explained that accidents occur in this age group very often, because that’s when children begin to leave home alone in the field, whether to visit a friend, to play on the sidewalks and streets or engage in the practice of sports, why are exposed to various types of injuries.

It is also a time of much exploration of their environment: they play with lighters, matches, electrical appliances are disassembled at home, and climb to roofs or trees, among other activities.

Poor diet creates obesity and malnutrition
Another situation that can be considered as serious is the poor nutrition, because it is this stage where they begin to be overweight and even obesity, due to an unbalanced diet.

Many of them, rather than prepare a nutritious snack, parents give them money to buy what they want in “the shop” or cooperative school, so basically consume too much fat and calories and low in nutrients, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

In adolescents it is recommended a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables as well as minimizing the consumption of junk food such as soft drinks, chips, pizzas, hot dogs, hamburgers, among others.

Infectious diseases
With regard to infectious diseases, López Robles added that the respiratory, gastrointestinal and rash (viral) are the most commonly suffer at this age, although perfectly preventable with simple hygiene and dietary measures.

He explained that acute respiratory diseases occur mainly in winter time, so preventive measures must be taken so that the child is not sick.

To avoid exposing it to sudden temperature changes, giving plenty of fluids, dress according to the temperature which is predominant.

During the summer we present the cases of gastroenteritis, so that prevention can also take some measures, like feeding the child care, where to eat, boil water and wash your hands before and after using the toilet or preparing food.

He stressed that the type exanthematous viral diseases can occur at any age, but their spread among children that age are favored because they live in schools as a child who acquires one of them is enough to spread it among your entire group.

Are diseases that produce “noodle” on the skin, characterized by catarrhal accompanied by a picture where there is a slight fever, malaise, some runny nose and conjunctivitis.

He explained that the prevention of viral diseases is mainly by vaccination, especially the MMR, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella. The last dose is given at six years old.

The Social Security specialist pointed out that to reduce the risk of infecting others, it is necessary that when a child has any of these diseases rash does not go to school, because in addition to worse and feeling bad for school activities, communicate the virus to other children.

Diabetes in children Diabetes is an incurable chronic disease characterized by the presence of high concentrations of glucose in the blood that is caused by lack of insulin or a defect in the action itself.
There are two types, explains Silvia Chahin, pediatric endocrinologist and member of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Endocrinology. The first can be present from birth, while the latter is manifested by eating disorders and lifestyle.

Claudia Medina is the mother of two children with type one diabetes. For 10 years up every night at two o’clock to medirles glycemia.
At 5 years, his son Khalil began to feel constantly thirsty and urinating several times a day. He looked like a virus but really your blood sugar level was very high.

Insulin and manage diet to stabilize their energy is converted into the priorities of their parents. When everything was controlled, the same symptoms in his second son, Said, who kept repeating that he did not suffer from this evil.
The type of disease that are the children of Claudia is present even in newborn infants prone. The body produces antibodies that mistakenly attack the insulin-producing cells. When you finish these, the disease manifests itself, explains endocrinologist William Rojas. Read the rest of this entry »

Detect diabetes Diabetes mellitus type 1, insulin dependent diabetes, is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. But to reach the diagnosis is not so simple, the average age at which children are diagnosed are eight. It is therefore very important time to recognize the symptoms to detect diabetes in young children.

One of the biggest concerns is that young children are more likely to go unnoticed because the symptoms are fairly nonspecific, but no identification could have health complications.

According to a study by the Spanish Society of Paediatric Endocrinology ( SEEP ), half of children under 5 years and nearly 70 percent of children under two years were diagnosed with diabetes and ketoacidosis. Read the rest of this entry »

Diabetes is a condition when the blood sugar level is higher than normal. In children it is mostly called either junior diabetes or type 1 diabetes. This horrible disease causes the pancreas to cease its ability to produce insulin or it affects the body’s ability to actually utilise the insulin it does correctly produce. Insulin is a chemical that allows your body to utilise starches, carbs and sugars. Children diagnosed with the aforementioned type 1 diabetes are also known to be insulin-dependent and will need to take insulin for the remainder of their lives.

There is a type 2 diabetes but this is more common in Adults over the age of forty. Recent developments have caused some confusion within the science community. It would appear that more and more children are now being diagnosed with the type 2 diabetes and this has been attributed to the unhealthy diet and lifestyle that children now lead. With type 2 diabetes the person produces the insulin but the body does not have the ability to utilise it correctly. Medication or extra insulin therefore has to be supplemented so the individual can stay healthy.

One cannot diagnose diabetes at home. The advice of the family doctor or health care representative needs to be sought. Alternatively a naturopath, endocrinologist or homeopath. Should you feel in your heart of hearts that your child is showing signs and they are perhaps on the obese side then seek medical help as soon as possible. The disease tends to run in families so obviously this can give even more cause for concern. The diagnosis of diabetes is carried out by the use of a simple blood test wherein the glucose levels are monitored carefully.

If you are unsure of what to look for the symptoms are blurry vision, frequent urination, recurring infections apropos athletes foot. Loss of weight is another symptom unless of course you are currently on a diet or healthy eating campaign. Chronic fatigue or tingly and numb feet and hands can also be included as possible symptoms.

Currently science is at a loss as to what causes diabetes in children. There is a theory that a virus or auto-immune response could possibly be the reason. Ideas that it is caused by the consumption of large amounts of sugar alone are indeed a myth. Plagued by type 1 diabetes children must take daily doses of insulin and not by a pill because the stomach acid will break it down too much.

The real answer is to have a brand new and much healthier diet and this has to be followed correctly.
