People with diabetes can not produce or properly use insulin, resulting in an elevation of glucose in the blood.
Although there is a strong genetic component, it is known that the Mediterranean diet is a key factor in preventing the onset of diabetes. In addition, in patients who already have diabetes, proper nutrition is a fundamental point of treating the disease, as it helps regulate the level of sugar in the body and prevent future complications.
Want to know what guidelines must follow a diabetic diet?
As you know, there are different types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes need insulin, while Type 2 diabetes is controlled mainly through exercise and diet. 80% of type 2 diabetes have a weight problem, so are especially recommended low-calorie diets.
Although it should be your doctor who will report on what you owe and what you should not eat, I gather some general feeding patterns, suitable in any type of hepatitis:
1. Try to eat every day at the same times (helps regulate diabetic control).
2. Split meals in 5 / 6 turns. Do not skip meals.
3. Get used to think about what you eat. It is important to watch how many carbohydrates you consume and how many you need (more if you exercise, less if you bring a sedentary lifestyle).
4. Eat fruits and vegetables, both raw and cooked. Avoid fruit juices, fruits in syrup and jams and jellies (except those produced specifically for diabetics).
5. Limit alcohol intake (interferes with the proper control of insulin levels).
6. Substitute sugar and honey non-nutritive sweeteners like saccharin or aspartame.
7. Consume plenty of fiber (vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains)
8. Take-fat milk and yogurt and avoid cheeses. The cream provides more fat.
9. Vegetable oil consumed daily, especially oil. Avoid cooking in butter, lard or palm and coconut oils.
10. Remove from your diet sweets (honey, cakes, candy) and bakery products.
11. Choose lean meats, it is advisable to take skinless chicken or turkey and rabbit.
