It must take a realistic view towards treatment and complications of diabetes to minimize these expressions and improve the quality of life.

Diabetes is a disease that has several aspects. First, there are different ways of presentation and body’s response to treatment. Also, and especially today, there are multiple treatment options alone or in combination with each other. We refer to oral therapy or injection (syringes, pens, infusion pumps) that can be used by a patient at various stages of the disease and at different stages of his life. It is therefore necessary to clarify and demystify some popular beliefs. These misconceptions include:

“The worst thing about diabetes is having to follow a diet, suffer hardship (to me with what I like to eat!), Spend much on food and feel that one must eat differently from other people.”

This belief is often one of the main obstacles for diabetics follow a healthy eating plan and balanced, because if you have the idea that diet is synonymous with deprivation and suffering hardly understand it’s nothing more to give an order to supply . In fact, there are many people who at the time be diagnosed diabetes do not require more than a couple of dietary patterns in their daily lives because they have an orderly power. In most cases, particularly in large cities, the usual diet of diabetics and non diabetics is usually messy, often excessive in certain foods and deficient in others, and anarchy on the distribution of food to over day. The only limitations of the diet would apply to people who are overweight or obese as “inseparable companions” of diabetes type 2. In these individuals will be necessary to limit calories, as any individual to be losing weight, diabetic or not. The current food trends in diabetes provide for the inclusion of virtually all food, medication adjusting to each food choices.

“No problems with this food: it is for diabetics, so I can eat whatever you want”

More than a belief in this claim is currently indicating a degree of denial of the diabetic to himself or to their environment. First we need to know what it means to “diabetic”: Refers to the content or absence of sugar? You mean some special nutrients? Currently, the trends suggest the desirability of not adopting this type of food at once, emphasizing the importance of reading labels carefully lettered or packaged nutritional products, and consulting the doctor or dietitian if there is doubt.

“Now they told me I neglected insulin in the diet.”

While insulin for diabetics given much freedom to vary their intake, it is always advisable to follow an order in their diet so as to avoid sudden drops or promotion of blood glucose.

“The doctor told me to put myself but I resist insulin. While I respect your opinion, I do not think so bad, and if I start to use insulin and will never be able to leave her, get used and it’s going to need more of it ”

This comment seems more suited to someone who is instigated to receive an illegal drug sale to a person who your doctor is proposing the need for insulin. It is not a drug or medicine, but a substitute for insulin your pancreas is not itself able to produce in sufficient quantities. The people starting insulin treatment and maintained over time, not doing it for an addiction problem but genuine need. If you talk to them you will notice that they feel much better and not have to skip meals to keep blood glucose levels rise excessively. If your doctor tells you to take insulin, accept this indication and will soon notice the benefits.

“When I feel good I will take some of the pills that the doctor told me to cut more spending”

While medications have an undeniable cost, currently the topic of costs should not be a barrier to limit the use of pharmacological agents that allow you to control the disease. If you’ve reached a good control of their disease would not be logical to back eliminating or reducing the dose used. Health systems have an obligation to assist with the costs of treating diabetes, a subject on which you should talk to your doctor or health care provider system.

Think about these issues, talk with your family and forward all your concerns with your doctor.

Gestational Diabetes is diagnosed by a glucose screening test of 50 grams. If the test shows a level of blood glucose greater than 140 mg / dL, ordered another tolerance test glucose three hours after a few days during which they will follow a special diet. If this second test results are abnormal, Gestational Diabetes is diagnosed.

Treatment for Gestational Diabetes
Treatment for gestational diabetes aims to keep levels of blood glucose in the normal range and ensure that the fetus is healthy. The medical treatment will be determined based on factors such as age of the patient, overall health and medical history, tolerance for specific medications, therapies or procedures, the disease progression, etc. ..

Treatment may include: exercise, a special diet, insulin injections, daily monitoring of blood glucose.

How does the baby’s gestational diabetes?
Gestational diabetes usually does not cause birth defects. However, infants of mothers with gestational diabetes may have some problems such as:

    * Vulnerability to certain chemical imbalances, including: low levels of serum calcium and magnesium.
* Large size at birth (macrosomia) and birth injury (trauma) due to the large baby
* Jaundice
* Increased risk of developing diabetes and obesity
* Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

The baby is usually performed fetal monitoring to check the size and health of the fetus, including ultrasound and stress testing.

Prevention
To prevent gestational diabetes, early prenatal care begins with regular doctor visits. Know the risk factors for gestational diabetes. Undergo prenatal screening between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy to screen for possible gestational diabetes. Keep careful control of blood sugar levels as soon as you make the diagnosis of gestational diabetes.

Although gestational diabetes usually disappears after delivery, sufferers are at risk of developing it again in a future pregnancy, or of developing diabetes in the future. We have seen that many women with gestational diabetes develop diabetes within 5 to 10 years after delivery, which increases risk in obese women.

Some recommendations that may help prevent diabetes in the future are: exercise, eating a diet low in sugar and lose weight.

You can control the amount of carbohydrates you eat carbohydrate counting practice. This involves keeping track of the total number of grams of carbohydrates you need to eat at meals or snacks, depending on the medication and exercise. Generally, this method involves the use of a book to count carbohydrates, you can buy in a supermarket or bookstore.

People with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of heart problems, so most doctors make a recommendation to limit fat below 30% of total daily calorie intake – this tends to make eating less fat in general and stay away from saturated fat. You should also pay attention to cholesterol levels by eating smaller amounts of meat, and sticking to lean meats like chicken and fish.

It will take some time to adjust to its new diabetes diet and healthy lifestyle, especially if you have not followed the practices of healthy living in the past, but the results will be worth the effort. Not only will you be able to better manage their diabetes, but also you will become a much healthier person.

If you have type 2 diabetes, is also very important to maintain a healthy weight. With type 2 diabetes, the level of body fat actually makes it harder for your body to produce and use insulin. Trim at least 10 or 20 pounds has the potential to significantly improve their blood sugar.

Smokers are advised to stop smoking as soon as possible, since smoking can aggravate diabetes and make it more difficult to cope with the disease. Because diabetics often experience poor circulation in the legs and feet, smoking is a dangerous habit to continue – which decreases blood flow further. Smoking also increases LDL cholesterol and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

If he maintains his blood sugar under control, moderate alcohol consumption is allowed, but do not drink on an empty stomach as this can lead to low blood sugar. To determine the amount of alcohol you can safely include in your diet, consult your doctor.

Despite a “miracle” diabetes diet does not exist to cure disease, if you have type 2 diabetes, there are rules you can follow the diet that ensures you stay as healthy as possible. When it comes to the end, proper nutrition is the only “diet” to follow. Many people have no experience with a healthy diet, but once you get into the swing of things, eating right will become part of your lifestyle.

To begin, it is best to follow the guidelines on nutrition in the food pyramid, with special attention to carbohydrate intake. Also, diabetics should maintain a regular eating schedule and control lots of exercise.

Starches are allowed on a diabetes diet, time control portions and avoid eating too much starch. Starches are present in the bread, cereal and starchy vegetables.

Eat five fruits and vegetables daily. This can be easily accomplished by eating a piece of fruit for a snack several times a day, or consumption of vegetables at dinner. The soups, stir-fries, and chili to make good hiding places for veggies if you need more intelligent ways to add good things in your food.

You can still eat sugar and sweets (perhaps surprisingly) with type 2 diabetes, but in moderation, which means once or twice a week maximum. One way to eat fewer sweets without leaving your sweet dessert is split in half.

Especially beneficial for diabetics are soluble fiber, so you need to get as many as these in your diet as possible. Fortunately, you can find soluble fiber in many foods, including fruits, vegetables and seeds. Soluble fibers are excellent because it helps in delaying and reducing the absorption of glucose from the intestines. Legumes (eg baked beans) have the largest amount of soluble fiber, as well as maintaining levels of blood sugar under control. Insoluble fibers, found in bran, whole grains and nuts, are also part of a healthy diet, as they act as intestinal scrubbers by cleaning the lower digestive tract.

For many people, in touch with a nutritionist is the best way to build a good diabetes diet. Each person is different, so keep in touch with your doctor and nutrition consultant to make your diet plan is best for you. A professional will consider your lifestyle, medication, weight, other medical problems, and their favorite foods to reach a plan that will keep you healthy and satisfy your cravings for specific flavors.

Nursing Andalusian begin this month the second phase of nurse prescribing, as it will allow them to collaborate in the process of indication and monitoring of drug therapies for diabetes and chronic wound care, in what is called collaborative prescribing.

The Minister of Health, María Jesús Montero, who today opened the IX Congress of the Andalusian Society of Community Nursing (ASANEC) being held in Seville, was referring to the second development phase of the decree so far given to this group Professional 96 indicate the possibility of non-prescription drugs and medical devices such as catheters, sterile dressings, absorbent urinary incontinence, and test strips to measure blood glucose among others.

The new competition now allows nurses, once accredited, provided that the physician’s request and authorization, which can track drug treatment previously indicated by the doctor to patient.

“It is concerned that nurses have the ability to vary the intensity or dose of treatment to take account of developments in the patient,” said Montero, who confined the new allocation nurse, always under the protocol established for each chronic health problem.

To that nurses can begin to exercise this new competition should prove their training and experience in the various protocols for chronic health problems, in this case in the treatment of diabetes and chronic wounds are those who will start the call ‘ collaborative prescribing, “which will be extended gradually to other processes.

Therefore, Health will soon publish the first two collaborative prescribing guidelines (Diabetes Mellitus and Chronic Wounds), you will have access to all Andalusian health.

There are also plans in September to start various courses for nurses who want to update their training in the treatment of diabetes in the face of accreditation in this’ collaborative prescribing. ”

Health Quality Agency of Andalusia, organ of the Ministry of Health is responsible for certifying these issues by assessing the merits provided by the professionals.

People with diabetes are at high risk of developing a common type of arrhythmia called atrial fibrillation, which increases the more severe the disease.

This circumstance increases as lengthening the treatment period, whereas the poorly controlled blood sugar also exacerbates the problem, the team concluded Dr. Sascha Dublin, Institute of Health Research Group in Seattle.

Upload risk of stroke and heart failure
Atrial fibrillation is not fatal, said Dublin, but raises the risk of a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and heart failure.

Diabetes, obesity and atrial fibrillation
Studies on the relationship between diabetes and atrial fibrillation results were contradictory and often excluded obesity. That, said Dublin, is important because obesity promotes diabetes risk and generate arrhythmia.

In the new study, researchers analyzed data from Group Health health system over 1410 people with atrial fibrillation and 2203 people without the disorder (control group).

40% atrial fibrillation risk in diabetics
18 percent of people with arrhythmia diabetes drugs consumed, as opposed to 14 percent in the control group. That translates into 40 percent more exposure to get atrial fibrillation in diabetics under treatment.

The more severe the diabetes, the greater the risk of arrhythmias. To assess the severity of diabetes, the team used two measurements: the level of hemoglobin A1C (an indicator of blood sugar control in recent years) and the amount of time in treatment for diabetes.

The risk of atrial fibrillation was increased as decreased blood sugar control.

Increased risk
While the risk was 6 percent higher in those with A1C levels of 7 or less, indicating a good blood sugar control in the long term, this risk rose to 50 percent in people with higher levels A1C between 7 and 9, and almost doubled in people with enzyme levels in September.

The fact of suffering from arrhythmia increases with age of diabetes, for each year that the patient has used drugs for the same, the possibility of generating atrial arrhythmia is growing by 3 percent.

Anticoagulants for stroke bypass
Dublin said that doctors who treat people with diabetes should pay attention to this growing risk exposure to atrial fibrillation. He stressed that the disease can be treated with anticoagulants to reduce the feasibility of a stroke.

Drugs reduce heart rates with insurance
In Mexico, 14 of every 100 people between 20 and 60 have diabetes, a health problem that appears to be excessive accumulation of glucose in the blood due to a deterioration in the secretion and / or action of the hormone insulin, produced by the pancreas and responsible for maintaining normal blood sugar levels.

Approximately 25 to 35 percent of diabetes patients follow a control on his problem, which means that a large majority of patients do not, at least in the right way.

In order to raise awareness about the importance of diabetes patient education and that it deals with the problem of health holistically, in Mexico City took place on 26 May, the first International Summit for Patient Education Diabetes. The meeting was organized by the Mexican National Association of Diabetes Educators (ANMED), and was attended by representatives of similar organizations in England, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica and Guatemala.

During the presentation of the meeting, Patricia González Monroy, ANMED president said that to be recognized as a diabetes educator must be a health professional and be supported by Mexican Diabetes Federation, the only entity that can certify to counsel education and communication in the field, in order to make discussions on prevention and care of their own illness and now there are two thousand educators in the field in Mexico.

Monroy Gonzalez said the association president is also concerned about the education of physicians caring for people afflicted by diabetes, which is directed through conferences and workshops nationwide. “The approach we take to meetings with doctors is that treatment must be comprehensive, interdisciplinary, to be clear that should involve both nutritionists, as ophthalmologists, nephrologists, dermatologists or whoever that the patient needed to prevent or delay chronic complications, while improving its quality and life expectancy. Thus, education is not about treatment, but as part of it. ”

Current epidemiological picture
Dr. Rosa Maria Aguilar Tlapala responsible for ANMED educational materials, reported that each year the consequences of diabetes leading to death more than 35 million patients worldwide, resulting in 60 percent of all deaths in the world.

He also explained that today there are 285 million adults with diabetes, between 20 and 79, and 344 million other glucose intolerant, ie your blood sugar rises above normal after eating but can be regularized without assistance, this does not mean that the illness, but your risk is high. That same age group will have 438 million people affected by diabetes in 2030 and 472 million more will be intolerant to glucose.

Also, Aguilar said Tlapala International Summit aims to update the health professionals who support the care and education of patients with diabetes, through workshops in which participants exchange experiences.

Mexico now ranks tenth in the world in number of diabetes patients with 6.8 million and is expected to reach in 2030 to seventh place with 11.9 million. In this regard, Dr. Sashko Dunkerley, director cardiometabolic Medical Laboratories Novartis, pointed out that there are indications that genetic mixing of different races more aggressive disease in the Mexican population, and that can manifest from an early age and act on body rapidly.

There are many products on the market that are made for diabetics. In the U.S. products are called “Sugar Free” or “Sugar Free.” These products have artificial sugar content has no calories but gives the sweet taste to food.
