Alternative therapies offer a very valid option for the treatment of diabetes, help greatly to the therapy prescribed by the physician, and in many cases far succeeds in reducing the blood sugar level, here we list the best alternative therapies for the treatment of diabetes.

Chinese medicine is making its contribution to the herbal medicine, where the consumption of plants such as watercress, Emulate, Gluten, Jaborandi, Walnut, and Valerian collaborate vigorously with the treatment prescribed by your doctor.
You should avoid outbursts, violent emotions, states of tension and stress for which the Yoga offers a highly effective alternative to reduce anxiety and have more control over emotions.

It was observed that, like cholesterol, diabetes is rare among people who perform some sedentary life or intense physical activity, therefore Pilates Method, also called the Yoga of the West, offers the alternative of exercise control. Where you work your whole body in an orderly, efficient and with excellent results.
And remember that alternative therapies never supplant medical treatment, and if they are good complementary therapies.

A few days ago took out a new edition of World Kidney Day, a date which seeks, among other things, that people fail to capture the importance of the kidneys for the proper functioning of the body and promote prevention behaviors. The following are mentioned more details about this international celebration this year had the theme “Protect your kidneys, to control diabetes.”

While all human body organs are desperately needed and each one fulfills a function, the kidneys are vital for human beings because they eliminate waste and toxins from the blood through urine, as reported in this blog.

Such is the importance of these bodies since 2006 has set a day in the year to inform and educate about its function and prevention.

On Thursday March 11th was the celebration of World Kidney Day, an initiative being conducted by the International Society of Nephrology in conjunction with the International Federation of Kidney Foundations. The 2010 edition of this celebration has the theme “Protect your kidneys, to control diabetes.”

According to reports the website Worldkidneyday.org, this time sought to have people understand the real importance of the kidneys, sought to educate about how to prevent diseases related to kidney function and, among other things, tried to explain that diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure.

It is important to add that diabetes is a disease that affects approximately 220 million people, according to official figures from the World Health Organization.

Under the title “Amazing Kidneys. Protect your kidneys, diabetes control, “a booklet published in Worldkidneyday.org, website World Kidney Day, explains that all people with diabetes, hypertension and overweight, your doctor should ask staff to study the role of kidneys.

Put honey on the wounds of the foot, is an alternative to avoid the occurrence of amputation in diabetic patients. This is evidenced by a doctor from the University of Wisconsin, USA, which has helped his patients avoid amputation. Now he plans to spread the honey therapy.

According to Professor Jennifer Eddy of the University School of Medicine and Public Health, honey can kill bacteria because of the nature of acid, but that honey is also effective to avoid bacterial resistant properties due to the use of antibiotics. “This is an important thing in the health world,” he said. In this honey therapy, part of the new wounds can be oiled after cleaning dead skin.

Patients with diabetes had early notice should be seriously part of the foot, especially to prevent wound infection continues. Give serious attention to the foot by doing good control of diabetes is caused diidap interference with diabetic foot.

Disturbance of damage to the nerves and blood vessels damage and infections that make people with diabetes experience numbness (numbness) in his legs. Therefore, diabetic patients are usually unaware of the foot injury that did not immediately apparent.

Honey therapy has been used as an alternative medicine in Europe, even in New Zealand this therapy used to treat insomnia. Professor Eddy got interested to try the honey treatment after knowing the tradition of the use of honey in the treatment of the past.

He began to test since six years ago. “I started to try this therapy after all treatment failed. Since we use honey, use of all types of antibiotics and we stopped the work, “he said. Until now the research is still ongoing and is expected to be completed in 2008 or 2009.

It turned out to have the hunger signal levels, ranging from very hungry, hungry, until a little hungry. This all became the benchmark for controlling the excessive appetite. But if we are still difficult to distinguish hunger, do not worry, use the clock as a measure.

Health experts say, usually to an empty stomach 4 hours after the last time we ate. It means, we are permitted to eat food every 4 hours. This method is even safe to apply to the middle of our diet.

If we wait until the stomach was completely empty, we will be more motivated to eat all the food presented in front of the eyes, according to Pauline Dr. Endang, MS, SpGK, head of nutrition agencies Fatmawati RSU. Not only that, when the stomach was completely empty, we become selective in choosing foods.

Research in England also proved, the number of workers who still want to chew unhealthy snacks after lunch, tend to decrease. This compared with the number of workers who are motivated snack in the afternoon. “The eating every 4 hours to maintain stable blood sugar levels, while preventing the desire to eat too much,” said Kate Geagan, RD, a dietitian from the United States.

So from now on, every time hunger strike before the scheduled dinner arrives, prepare a healthy snack. Thus we can hold the hunger until dinner arrived. Select a handful of unsalted nuts and fruit platter.

Two types of food rich in fiber and water so that the stomach remains full with the number of calories that are not much. But remember, do not keep snack made of cheese or dried fruit on the desk drawer or in the bag. Make sure the snacks that we keep in the desk drawer is a kind of solid food.

Having diabetes does not mean you can not eat sweets. Nor does it mean you can not eat sugar, but it is true that sugar intake is very restricted for diabetics because it is the type of carbohydrate that is absorbed faster and more raises the level of glucose in the blood, says voanoticias. com nutritionist Andrea Nebel, a member of the Uruguayan Society of Nutrition in Diabetes.

“It is not banning sugar by a diabetic can save in the case of hypoglycaemia. But it should be handled. Consumer is not free, “says nutritionist.

The same explains the American Diabetes Association: “Doctors used to recommend people with diabetes to avoid sugar. They thought that sugar consumption levels would cause the blood glucose level very fast. We know that all carbohydrates affect blood glucose levels in the blood almost to the same extent. ”

A potato and a brownie containing the same amount of carbohydrates, for example. “They cause roughly the same effect on the level of glucose in the blood. Of course, a potato has more vitamins than a brownie, so it is a better option “, according to the association.

However, for many diabetics are more desirable and easy to use sugar substitutes in foods and beverages. Sweeteners are a safe choice to sweeten foods, but there are several types and some nutritionists recommend some sooner than others.

First, there are reduced-calorie sweeteners: erythritol, hydrogenated starch hydrolysates, isomalt, lactitol, maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol and xylitol are some appointed by the American Diabetes Association.

Then there are the low-calorie sweeteners that are “free foods”, according to the association. “Sweeten foods, do not contribute calories and do not raise levels of blood glucose. Not counted as carbohydrates, fats or any other exchange. ”

Some types of low-calorie sweeteners and their brand names are:

- Acesulfame potassium (Sweet One, Swiss Sweet, Sunett)

- Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal)

- Saccharin (Sweet N Low and Sugar Twin)

- Sucralose (Splenda)

Nutritionist Andrea Nebel said that these sweeteners are approved by international health agencies but she recommends the use of natural sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda), made from modified sugar cane.

But he warned that a diabetic should be careful when consuming a product that claims to be “diet” or “light” because there may be other components that alter their blood sugar. And that’s the real challenge of the patient.

“As a diabetic you have to find a diet product without added sugar. Some products claim to be ‘light’ because fat has decreased, but not mean they do not contain sugar. ”

What is your recommendation? That diabetics read the product labels. “A patient with diabetes should be taught to know the servings of each ingredient on the packaging. The distribution of sugars and carbohydrates. What is the origin of these sugars have. Under fat and sodium. ”

The key is eating a healthy diet. And the diabetic can not live only for products with low calorie sweeteners. “Some foods or sugar-free products that use low-calorie sweeteners actually have more calories and more fat than the versions that contain sugar,” according to the American Diabetes Association.

As Nebel, the association recommends that the patient “always check the Nutrition Facts label. If you compare the calories of sugar-free version with the normal version, check that it actually consume fewer calories. It is also useful to compare the fat content on labels. ”

And most important: that the diabetic control the daily intake of carbohydrates, including sugars, as part of a healthy eating plan it will give you the vitamins and minerals.

16 years ago that Raul Besio ophthalmologist and other members of his family live pendant alarm diabetic daughter.

When it rings in the morning and hear that she goes out, you know it’s okay. But when the alarm is still ringing insistently, he or someone in your house has to run away because her daughter is probably in a hypoglycemic coma.

“My daughter is 28, is a doctor. And living at home, aged 12 years and we are, “Raul told a voanoticias.com Besio.

Having a child with type I helped Besio to be more than an ophthalmologist. A doctor with a holistic view of how the patient with diabetes should be treated.

“I think the most basic prevention is the doctor-patient relationship. This relationship is fundamental. And the doctor should take care to guide the treatment and listen to the patient. The problem is that this relationship fails many times by poor communications between doctor and patient. ”

By way of criticism, said doctors often do not have time or are not as deep in the topic of diabetes and are limited to see the patient within the parameters of their specialty.

The physician should feel part of a team of no fewer than 10 specialists who care for patients with diabetes, Besio said. As part of that team, you have to ask questions that go beyond the basic query.

“Although it is an ophthalmologist, the first thing I have to ask is: How’s your glycated hemoglobin? It’s a test every four months and giving the value of the average blood glucose of patients in those months. Is indicated on a mandatory basis at least twice a year. ”

The answer you get 60 percent of the patients is: “What is that?”. And that gives the standard response to Besio that most are not receiving a proper education.

“Why do not you educated? Because the doctor did not have time. Or the knowledge that may or may not have the medical. And also the response of the patient, nor is all the fault of the doctor, obviously, “said Besio.

“In most cases, when patients with diabetes explains the disease and feel that the physician understands the response is extremely positive,” he said.

Educate, treat and understand the patient. It takes longer but gives better results.

It must take a realistic view towards treatment and complications of diabetes to minimize these expressions and improve the quality of life.

Diabetes is a disease that has several aspects. First, there are different ways of presentation and body’s response to treatment. Also, and especially today, there are multiple treatment options alone or in combination with each other. We refer to oral therapy or injection (syringes, pens, infusion pumps) that can be used by a patient at various stages of the disease and at different stages of his life. It is therefore necessary to clarify and demystify some popular beliefs. These misconceptions include:

“The worst thing about diabetes is having to follow a diet, suffer hardship (to me with what I like to eat!), Spend much on food and feel that one must eat differently from other people.”

This belief is often one of the main obstacles for diabetics follow a healthy eating plan and balanced, because if you have the idea that diet is synonymous with deprivation and suffering hardly understand it’s nothing more to give an order to supply . In fact, there are many people who at the time be diagnosed diabetes do not require more than a couple of dietary patterns in their daily lives because they have an orderly power. In most cases, particularly in large cities, the usual diet of diabetics and non diabetics is usually messy, often excessive in certain foods and deficient in others, and anarchy on the distribution of food to over day. The only limitations of the diet would apply to people who are overweight or obese as “inseparable companions” of diabetes type 2. In these individuals will be necessary to limit calories, as any individual to be losing weight, diabetic or not. The current food trends in diabetes provide for the inclusion of virtually all food, medication adjusting to each food choices.

“No problems with this food: it is for diabetics, so I can eat whatever you want”

More than a belief in this claim is currently indicating a degree of denial of the diabetic to himself or to their environment. First we need to know what it means to “diabetic”: Refers to the content or absence of sugar? You mean some special nutrients? Currently, the trends suggest the desirability of not adopting this type of food at once, emphasizing the importance of reading labels carefully lettered or packaged nutritional products, and consulting the doctor or dietitian if there is doubt.

“Now they told me I neglected insulin in the diet.”

While insulin for diabetics given much freedom to vary their intake, it is always advisable to follow an order in their diet so as to avoid sudden drops or promotion of blood glucose.

“The doctor told me to put myself but I resist insulin. While I respect your opinion, I do not think so bad, and if I start to use insulin and will never be able to leave her, get used and it’s going to need more of it ”

This comment seems more suited to someone who is instigated to receive an illegal drug sale to a person who your doctor is proposing the need for insulin. It is not a drug or medicine, but a substitute for insulin your pancreas is not itself able to produce in sufficient quantities. The people starting insulin treatment and maintained over time, not doing it for an addiction problem but genuine need. If you talk to them you will notice that they feel much better and not have to skip meals to keep blood glucose levels rise excessively. If your doctor tells you to take insulin, accept this indication and will soon notice the benefits.

“When I feel good I will take some of the pills that the doctor told me to cut more spending”

While medications have an undeniable cost, currently the topic of costs should not be a barrier to limit the use of pharmacological agents that allow you to control the disease. If you’ve reached a good control of their disease would not be logical to back eliminating or reducing the dose used. Health systems have an obligation to assist with the costs of treating diabetes, a subject on which you should talk to your doctor or health care provider system.

Think about these issues, talk with your family and forward all your concerns with your doctor.

Gestational Diabetes is diagnosed by a glucose screening test of 50 grams. If the test shows a level of blood glucose greater than 140 mg / dL, ordered another tolerance test glucose three hours after a few days during which they will follow a special diet. If this second test results are abnormal, Gestational Diabetes is diagnosed.

Treatment for Gestational Diabetes
Treatment for gestational diabetes aims to keep levels of blood glucose in the normal range and ensure that the fetus is healthy. The medical treatment will be determined based on factors such as age of the patient, overall health and medical history, tolerance for specific medications, therapies or procedures, the disease progression, etc. ..

Treatment may include: exercise, a special diet, insulin injections, daily monitoring of blood glucose.

How does the baby’s gestational diabetes?
Gestational diabetes usually does not cause birth defects. However, infants of mothers with gestational diabetes may have some problems such as:

    * Vulnerability to certain chemical imbalances, including: low levels of serum calcium and magnesium.
* Large size at birth (macrosomia) and birth injury (trauma) due to the large baby
* Jaundice
* Increased risk of developing diabetes and obesity
* Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

The baby is usually performed fetal monitoring to check the size and health of the fetus, including ultrasound and stress testing.

Prevention
To prevent gestational diabetes, early prenatal care begins with regular doctor visits. Know the risk factors for gestational diabetes. Undergo prenatal screening between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy to screen for possible gestational diabetes. Keep careful control of blood sugar levels as soon as you make the diagnosis of gestational diabetes.

Although gestational diabetes usually disappears after delivery, sufferers are at risk of developing it again in a future pregnancy, or of developing diabetes in the future. We have seen that many women with gestational diabetes develop diabetes within 5 to 10 years after delivery, which increases risk in obese women.

Some recommendations that may help prevent diabetes in the future are: exercise, eating a diet low in sugar and lose weight.
